The DWP is increasing the amount of help that parents get with the eye-watering costs of childcare - with some receiving as much as £20,872 per year
Working parents on Universal Credit are in for a significant financial uplift this year, as the Department for Work and Pensions has announced an increase in childcare support, potentially benefiting some families with up to £20,872 annually.
Work and Pensions Secretary Mel Stride said: "This big boost to childcare support will help even more parents step into the world of work and secure long-term financial security." To create the nursery spaces that will be required for the additional children qualifying for care each year, the government has had to invest £100m in capital investment, just to create the spaces needed. Once the system is fully operational, many working parents will benefit from 30 hours of free childcare each week, from the moment their maternity leave ends to when their child starts school.
Who is eligible for Child Benefit and how it is paid? You can get Child Benefit if you're responsible for bringing up a child under 16, or under 20 if they stay in approved education or training. Only one person can get Child Benefit for a child and there is no limit to how many children you can claim for.
