No fewer than 156,000 applicants have been confirmed to have shown interest in the 10,600 teaching and non-teaching jobs for public schools in Oyo State.

The vacancies rolled out by the state government early in February, through the Teaching Service Commission , are for 7,000 teachers, 2, 000 non-teachers and 1,600 night guards.

The confirmation of the number of applicants was made yesterday by the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mr. Olasunkanmi Olaleye, while briefing reporters after the weekly Executive Council meeting held at the Exco Chamber of the Governor’s Office, Agodi, Secretariat, Ibadan.Also at the briefing were the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Bashir Bello, Attorney-General/Commissioner for Justice, Prof. Oyelowo Oyewo and Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Dr.

Governor Makinde’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Taiwo Adisa and Special Adviser on Media, Mr. Jide Ajani, accompanied the commissioners to the event. Giving a breakdown of the applicants, Olaleye said 91,000 people applied for teaching jobs, 65,000 for non-teaching jobs, adding that the application closed on February 24, while the shortlisted candidates for teaching and non-teaching jobs would sit for a Computer Based Test next month.
