No fewer than 14, 000 candidates applied for temporary teaching jobs in Jigawa State within 24 hours. Chairman of the Jigawa State Universal Basic Education Board, Professor Haruna Musa, stated this while speaking at the official presentation of permanent appointment letters to 3,233 candidates at the Aminu Kano Triangle, Dutse, the state capital.

He informed them that they served as temporary teachers for two years and thereafter were given permanent and pensionable appointments after passing a series of examinations and training. 'All the 3,233 teachers were recruited based on merit and we are assured that all of them are capable and will give sound knowledge to our children,' he stated. Prof.

He added that the board has also opened its portal for the recruitment of another 3, 000 temporary J-Teach teachers, aimed at bridging the teacher gap Jigawa has been battling with for years. According to him: 'To my surprise, within 48 hours of opening the portal, no fewer than 14, 000 candidates applied for the temporary teaching job. I don't know how many candidates will apply before the closing.
