More than 124 players have gathered at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club to contest for honours in the maiden edition of the Fusion Sports
The event, which began on August 9, is aimed at giving a platform to less privileged but talented youngsters to showcase their skills. It will end on August 15.Founder of the Fusion Tennis Foundation, former Nigerian tennis junior champion, Fuad Quadri, said the outfit would keep the children busy and away from vices during the holiday period.
“This is the sport that gave me everything in life… it is all about creating opportunities for the kids in Lagos through sports. I grew up in Lagos Island, an environment filled with crime and all many illegal things, but tennis gave me a good life.“What we do in the foundation is to get as many children as possible into the game of tennis and sports in general to pave a plan for their lives.
Quadri, a former Head Coach at Emirates Tennis Academy in the United Arab Emirates , said the first three days of the weeklong tennis programme would be used to train the players in a clinic, while the remaining four days would involve a tournament where the technical crew were expected to discover talented players for mentoring.
