Mr Lawan says after 24 years in the National Assembly, he has the responsibility to help new lawmakers entering the parliament.
Senate President Ahmad Lawan has debunked speculations that he may join the race for the position in the 10th Senate.Mr Lawan stated this on Thursday while speaking with journalists after a meeting between the leadership of the National Assembly and President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
He stated that he never showed interest in joining the race because he never wished to become the next senate president. Adding that after 24 years in the National Assembly, he has the responsibility to help new lawmakers entering the parliament.“I don’t really wish to be one. I have played my part and I am happy that we have played our part,” Mr Lawan said in response to a question asked by a journalist. He added that “I have never indicated interest to run.
He said there are some issues that must be addressed, adding that the election of the leadership must be based on national interest and the interest of the National Assembly.
